Our History

crofton family eye care

After completion of Dr. Elliott J. Klonsky’s Residency in Vision Therapy in 1976, he worked part-time for an optometrist in Crofton by the name of Michael Steadman, O.D. Unfortunately, Dr. Steadman passed away soon after, and Dr. Klonsky took over the practice.

From 1976 to 1996 the office was located in the Crofton Medical Professional Building, near Friendly’s Restaurant on Route 3 north. In 1996 the office was relocated to the Priest Bridge Centre. Twenty years later, the office needed more space and moved again, this time to heart of Crofton at the intersection of Route 3 and Conway/Davidsonville roads.

Over the years, Dr. Klonsky has had several associate optometrists working for him. In 2004, Nina N. Doyle, O.D., joined the practice and has been with us ever since. Dr. D has been a wonderful addition to our practice for many reasons, but particularly because her specialty in eye problems of the older adult complement Dr. K’s specialty in childrens’ vision.

Drs. Klonsky and Doyle brought in a third optometrist: Dr. Dana Greiss. Dr. Greiss completed a Residency in Childrens’ Vision, and joined Dr. K in providing this important service. However, after five years, Dr. Greiss relocated back to Pennsylvania due to her husband's job relocation.
In the fall of 2018, Drs. K and D welcomed a new associate, Dr. Sadia Haque. Dr. Haque is a residency-trained optometrist in vision therapy and rehabilitation. She has a keen interest in how vision and the brain are uniquely connected and how it develops and continues to grow, despite aging or trauma. She works with patients of all ages, from young children to the senior adult.

At the end of 2018, after 43 years of practice, Dr. Klonsky retired, and Dr. Doyle took over the practice. Her husband, Dr. Andrew (Drew) Doyle left the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs to join the practice and attempt to fill the large void left by Dr. Klonsky. Also residency-trained, his background and expertise is in the treatment and management of ocular disease. Dr. Drew also inherited all of Dr. Klonsky's eye-themed ties so a piece of Dr. K is always around!
